Summer Reading Program: "Design a Space Ship to Mars" Winners Announced
Congratulations to Justin B. and Robert & Henry R. for winning week 2 of the Design Challenge - "Design a Space Ship to Mars." Justin's design made use of solar energy sails and included a complement of 30 crew members. Robert & Henry's vessel is just big enough for Captain Henry, but he regularly completes missions from his basement launch pad. Remember to submit your designs for this week's challenge by 8 p.m. tonight - "Design a Super Power."

Summer Reading Program: Week 1 Design Challenge Winners Announced
Congratulations to Eduardo M. and Nadia H.! They are the winners of week one for this summer's Design Challenge. Nadia designed a prosthetic arm to aid adults and children missing limbs. And Eduardo designed a barista robot. Prizes were underwritten by the Friends of Smyrna Library. The deadline for week two's entries is tonight(!) at 8 p.m.

Speaker: Amber Rhea, Georgia Department of Transportation
This presentation will provide an overview of midcentury residential architecture, with a focus on the Ranch House. Interior and exterior architectural features will be discussed, as well as the social context in which Ranch Houses became popular. Gain a deeper understanding of why Ranch Houses are important to our cultural heritage and worthy of preservation, and how the Georgia Department of Transportation is working to identify and document them.
Speaker Biography:
Amber is an Architectural Historian with the Georgia Department of Transportation and also serves on the DeKalb County Historic Preservation Commission. She received her Master's degree in Heritage Preservation from Georgia State University.
