We hosted a wonderful one-act, one-woman play, Ms. Lillian, this afternoon at the Smyrna Community Center. The play was written by Carol Cook Puckett and performed by Elaine Hubbard. The play takes place in 1978 at Lillian Carter’s home while she is waiting for a New York Times reporter to interview her as the recipient of the prestigious United Nations Ceres Medal.
Ms. Hubbard’s performance was superb, at times quite funny and at other times introspective. It was a fantastic presentation of Lillian Carter’s life as a social activist, nurse, humanitarian, and a modern & outspoken Southern woman ahead of her years. The play ended with 2 minutes of applause and Q & A. Thank you, Ms. Hubbard and Ms. Cook Puckett!
